A day trip along the Chicken Trail

A cosy half-day walk along a trail with a funny name.

As we've said before, you don't have to go far to find nice things to do. During the summer, posts after posts about Kycklingleden appeared in my social feed. What is Kycklingleden, I wondered, and why on earth did someone name a hiking trail in Värmland Kycklingleden?

No sooner said than done, we headed to Liljedal just outside Karlstad to explore the trail. The picnic bag and coffee maker came along of course. The Chicken Trail is described as a medium to difficult hiking trail of about 6 km. We would probably describe it as medium even though it was quite hilly in parts. We hiked through a beautiful forest and down through the somewhat wet Kycklingdalen to then get up the mountain with a dazzling view of Lake Vänern. The mountain suffered a major forest fire in 2004, traces of which can still be seen.

At the best viewpoint there is a shelter and benches to sit on. Just to pick up the hiking kitchen, because on the menu was soup and freshly baked pan bread. For dessert it was of course coffee and cake. Super good out on a trip!

A cosy half-day trip with a reasonably strenuous hike, great views at coffee time and fun old stump art along the way. Clearly worth a visit!

But what about the name Chicken Trail? Well, it's on one of the information signs along the trail. Just for you to read yourself when you pass by.

More info and map of the trail can be found here.
