Wine & Walk, like a pub crawl but better

Champagne can be enjoyed at any time of the day, right?

When there is a bubble, Rendahl is not slow to get involved. Since we also like to walk, something called Wine & Walk should be the perfect activity. Wine & Walk is really exactly what it sounds like. During one afternoon, you go between three different restaurants in town, where you are offered a short wine tasting and an appetizer at each place. To finish, you can add a dinner if you want to spice up the tasting even more. You choose which of the three restaurants you want to finish at, the order is planned accordingly and you go in a united troop between the places. It is not completely different from Moveat, which we also tested and which you can read about here. However, Wine & Walk has more of a focus on wine and perhaps feels a bit more luxurious. The wine walks have different themes, this autumn, for example, there will be a day with red wines, but this time the focus was on sparkling wine. We took our wine walk in Karlstad, but the same concept also exists in Växjö and hopefully more cities will follow in the future.

We started at Scandic Winn where we were welcomed, given some practical information and our first tasting. It started really well with three glasses of champagne. The tasting was quite traditional and informative with a knowledgeable wine expert. I also appreciated that we were given a little booklet with information about the wines we tried. After this tasting, Champagne ended up at the top of the list of future destinations. As soon as we get the chance we will go there, so stay tuned!

A little happy in the hat, it was now time to follow the coach towards Clarion Plaza. Here we got to taste a cava and two bubbles from Austria, one of which was Magnus Carlsson's rosé bubble. I really think that a good wine sells itself without a celebrity, but but. Saints & Sinners absolutely works on a sunny afternoon on the balcony, but is otherwise perhaps a little too much raspberry juice for my taste.

The tasting was pleasant and there were plenty of facts as well as fun anecdotes about winemaking. There were slightly simpler wines than at the tasting before, but still a good mix. Unfortunately the venue was not the best for this type of event, it was difficult to hear what was being said which was a bit of a shame. By far the best appetizer was served here, a small tartlet with roasted manchego.

The last test was held The food mill in Värmland's museum premises by a real wine geek from Grythyttan's Gästgiveri. In addition to tips on how to cheat and thus pass as a wine expert, we learned that Champagne is the only drink suitable around the clock. Champagne is luxurious for breakfast, mandatory for lunch, starts the party and perks up the after-party. I can't help but agree, besides, you have to listen to the professionals. In addition to these invaluable tips, here we got to try a prosecco, a cava and a champagne. A personal and charming tasting where we also bought a nice book about Champagne as a souvenir.

At this point we were really hungry and expectations for dinner were high, Matbruket is always good. On the menu was grilled asparagus with cold-smoked salmon and roe for starters. The main course was Bear chicken with spring onion cream, primroses and parsley potatoes. Two well-selected champagnes were served with these dishes. The dessert consisted of a variation of rhubarb served with strawberry ice cream and chocolate cream. Rhubarb is apparently extremely difficult to match with wine, but here our wine geek had managed to create a champagne specially made for the Swedish market that went perfectly with rhubarb. An absolutely fantastic dinner, then. 😋

Satisfied and happy with my new book purchase

This was really nice! I remember hunting down the organizer of the Wine & Walk last fall because I wanted to buy tickets as a Christmas present for Henrik. I am happy with my hunting and I am also very pleased that I managed to convince several people in my circle of acquaintances to also buy tickets. What if it didn't turn out well? 😱

The walk with Wine & Walk was a very successful arrangement with three completely different types of wine tastings that complemented each other well. The end with dinner at Matbruket was the finishing touch to a luxurious and lovely afternoon and evening. Now we look forward to the next Wine & Walk this fall!
