Now it was time to head home from Österlen and we chose to take the road along the west coast with a couple of detours to Ystad and Helsingborg. Of course we had time for a coffee stop at the popular Olof Viktors. Lots of people, but a nice stop and if the weather permits you can have coffee outside in the nice garden.
While we were in the neighbourhood, we couldn't miss Glimmingehus, the best preserved medieval castle in the Nordic countries. Imagine being able to build like this in the 16th century! Attempts were made in the 17th century to demolish the castle so that it would not fall into the hands of the Danes. However, as befits a castle, the castle stood its ground and no traces of the demolition attempt can be seen today. In addition to the castle, there is also a small museum with a shop, a small café and other things to look at when you are there.
Before we left Skåne, we stopped in Ystad, probably best known through all the films about Wallander. A nice little town that we jokingly noted that we could move here when we get old. However, it was only a short stop and a leg stretch before the last stretch towards Helsingborg where we would stay for the evening.
Helsingborg turned out to be a bit of a surprise for both of us. Unfortunately the rain was pouring down so we couldn't see much of the city but we got a great impression and will definitely take a trip down again at some point. We stayed at Hotel V in the city centre, a fairly large and super nice hotel with nice rooms and good service. When it was time for dinner, we had heard about Glada Änkan which reportedly serves real Hungarian schnitzel. We didn't just get schnitzel, we got a whole schnitzel cavalcade, you guys!
Full and satisfied, we could walk through the city back to the hotel. The rain had eased a bit so we got to see a bit more of the city. It will definitely be a visit again, why not a new summer trip?
