During a few days in September when autumn was at its most beautiful, we went to Grövelsjön to hike. Grövelsjön is located in northwestern Dalarna and thus at a convenient distance from Värmland. Henrik is a dedicated hiker but for me it was the first mountain trip so a mountain called a snällfjäll suited us well.
At Grövelsjön there are a number of accommodations and for us the choice fell on Lövåsgårdens mountain hotel where we booked a package with accommodation and full board. Lövåsgården is located a bit outside the community and is not so big but on the other hand cosy and convivial. The owners endeavour to take care of their guests with good food and a nice atmosphere. Around the corner there are several hiking trails, including the trail up to Storvätteshågna.
After a whole day of hiking, it was not bad to sit down at a table and enjoy a three-course dinner. The dining room was a mobile-free zone so unfortunately we have no pictures but we were treated to a fantastic vegetarian lasagne one night and reindeer fillet another night. When it came to desserts, the chef's heart seemed to beat a little extra for raspberries, because the dessert always contained raspberries in some form, such as a delicious raspberry sorbet.
Before we set out on the next day's hike, we ate a hearty breakfast and packed a lunch that we could eat out on the mountain.
We had really lovely days up at Grövelsjön and can highly recommend Lövåsgårdens mountain hotel. As I said, we had full board, but they offer both self-catering in cabins and full board so you can find the variant that you think suits you best. You can read more about the mountain hotel here.
