On a beautiful May day, we headed out to the Segerstad archipelago just outside Karlstad for a food tour. It was the second time we were out with Food tour in Värmland, this time we took the big food tour.
Matvandring i Värmland is a small family business that specializes in nature experiences and locally produced flavors. The heart of the company is Lena Bergström, natural health educator, but both husband and daughter appear in the forest during the hike to serve us goodies along the way. You can choose between the small and the large food walk or why not forest bathing, a more sensual experience where you experience the nature around you in a slow walk through the forest. The hikes are located in I2-Skogen or in the Segerstad archipelago. Please read about our trip in the I2 forest here.
We stroll along at a leisurely pace, stopping every now and then to enjoy the view or to listen to the chirping of the birds. The pace is calm and the focus is on relaxing and letting go of everyday stress. The walk is carried out in small groups, so there is also the opportunity to chat a little with the other participants.
The food we get to taste along the way is exclusively locally produced and comes from a variety of local suppliers. We got to taste meat from Hygn's game, cheese from Lakene cheese farm, muster and juices from Enebacken's museum and many other good things. By the way, several of the suppliers sell their products at Reko-rings around Värmland, so a tip is to look up these groups on Facebook to see where you can buy your Värmland goodies.
Having tried both the big and the small food tour, I have to say this is really nice! A fantastic way to spend a beautiful spring day. We decided to make this an annual tradition.
