Those of you who know us will know by now that \u201dhanging out at a campsite\u201d isn't really our thing. We tend to view a campsite or motorhome stopover as a quick pit stop to get some sleep before heading off again on new adventures. We rarely stay in one place for more than a night and we barely sit down for anything other than a quick coffee or to share a bottle of wine. That notion is completely turned on its head when you arrive at \u00c5r\u00e5shult. If you come here, the campsite is the destination itself\u2014what a place!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just outside Gullsp\u00e5ng lies this unexpected gem. On an anonymous road out in the countryside, you are first met by a beautiful avenue of trees and then a sign warning of playing pensioners. Then you know there's trouble afoot. \ud83d\ude42 The atmosphere here is calm and chaotic at the same time. Each camping pitch has its own leafy clearing, most with their own fire pit where you can barbecue or light a campfire. If you are lucky, you will also get a small lake with your own jetty on your plot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here the peace ends, however, at least for the curious soul keen on a journey of discovery. There is so much to see here. There is a general store with so much gear that it'll make your head spin, there's a motor museum, an old petrol station, a sinking boat, a blacksmith's forge, a number of flea markets. Yes, you hear that, I could go on all day and I'd still forget something. Oh, by the way, don't miss the outhouse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you get completely exhausted by all the sensory input, there is also a short walking trail down to the water. I have to admit that we never got around to doing this. It simply took too long to look at everything there was to see. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

So how is best to experience this place? Naturally, you go on one of the many quiz walks. One of them involves finding codes hidden here and there. If you manage to collect them all, you then get to test your code-cracking skills on the lock to the schnapps cabinet. Do you think we succeeded? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, a little practical information then. The campsite has 40 pitches, but several of them are so large that you can fit two cars on the same pitch if you are a group. Most pitches also have electricity. If you do not want to stay in a tent or motorhome\/caravan, there are also small cabins available to rent here.
